What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a surgical fat-sucking solution that removes fat from targeted areas of your body. These can include your abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, or neck. If you have found it difficult to lose fat in these areas, liposuction may be what you need. This procedure not only removes hard-to-lose fat but contours the areas as well – creating a more sculpted you. It is important to note however that liposuction in itself is not a complete weight loss plan. Liposuction is great however for addressing fat in hard to reach places, like the neck, thighs, and more.
How Liposuction Works
To learn about how liposuction works, it is important to understand how fat is created in the body. Weight gain goes hand in hand with energy consumption. When you eat, your body stores energy as fat. This fat is stored in cells within your body, which will then expand in both volume and size. This then leads you to gain weight.
Liposuction works to reduce the number of these fat cells in a given area. However, this will depend on both the look of the area and the volume of fat. Typically, the contouring effects of liposuction are permanent as long as you keep a stable weight. Following the procedure, your skin will mold itself into the natural contour of the target area. If you normally have good elasticity and skin tone, the area will be smooth.
During the procedure, a local anesthetic will be applied to the target area and our team of experts will monitor your vitals, including your heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen. The procedure itself may take up to several hours to complete depending on the area, and patients are monitored for a short period of time post-procedure. Recovery is generally painless, but you should expect some swelling in the area for a few weeks following the procedure. After this time, the swelling will subside and the area will appear sculpted.
